Root Canal Treatment and Alternatives
What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root Canal Treatment (RCT), also called endodontic treatment, is a sequence of treatments for the infected pulp of a tooth, which eliminates the infection.
The objective of Root Canal Treatment is to eliminate the infected pulp of your teeth which can help to relieve toothache and/or swelling. After removing the infected tissue, the canal(s) are disinfected and filled to prevent re-contamination.
Why Root Canal Treatment?
Removing a tooth instead of treating it can create more problem. When the tooth is being removed and not replaced by a dental implant and/or dental crown, your teeth might be shifted due to the missing teeth gap. This can result in chewing or biting difficulty which makes it harder for you to clean or brush your teeth and ultimately, gum disease.
Root Canal Treatment is a procedure to save your natural tooth which is usually less expensive than having a replacement tooth.
Root Canal Treatment Alternative
In some cases whereby there is a severe tooth decay, Root Canal Treatment is not suitable as there might be a possibility of failing.
For such cases, the dentist will advise to do a dental extraction and replaced the teeth gap with a dental implant, dental bridge or a denture. This will help to prevent shifting of teeth and reduce the risks of developing gum disease.
